It was truly a series of firsts for PSITE NCR last 3-Feb-2012! This was the date when PSITE NCR had its first ever immersion (field) trip and MSW conducted outside NCR – it was held at the REMEC Broadband Wireless International Inc., a semicon manufacturing plant located at Carmelray Industrial Park in Laguna. There were 51 “trippers” from more than 20 schools who joined the event, attended by no less than the PSITE National President, Dr. Randy Gamboa, and two Natonal board members, Dr. Bart Tanguilig III and Ms. Rose Alday. This was the first joint PSITE NCR & Region IV-A activity, with five faculty from Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, including Ms. Alday. We were joined by a faculty member coming from Benguet province!
On the way to the plant, we had “bring me-show me” games while in the bus arranged by the host, complete with prizes to winners courtesy of giveaways from Epson, Jollibee, and others! Upon arriving in the plant, PSITE NCR delegates were welcomed by the host, REMEC IT Director Rhett Ramos, and the REMEC IT team. It was a loaded agenda. The REMEC President and SEIPI Board member, Domingo Bonifacio, delivered the welcome remarks; Rhett provided the IT presentation; Ricky Nino, REMEC IT Development Manager shared the systems development processes, and Andy Anonuevo, REMEC Enterprise Systems Supervisor discussed the enterprise systems used in the plant. In between the sessions were free-flowing coffee, chocolate and drinks; lunch was provided by the host!
The highlight of the trip was a tour inside the manufacturing floor. Two groups alternated, with REMEC Manufacturing Director Roel Gamo, explaining the processes that go with the manufacturing of REMEC products. It was nice to see everyone in their protective gowns, caps and shoe covers!!!
The delegates went home with a lot of take-aways from the MSW and plant tour. On the way home, the attendees had shared a few testimonials, with Randy, Bart, and Rose, giving very positive comments and thoughts from the trip! What’s more, PSITE NCR President announced that there will be another series of plant tours in the firt weeks of April and May, targetting two semicons in Laguna and Cavite! Truly a lot of firsts! It was truly a fun-filled, interesting, informative and fantastric experience! Mabuhay ang PSITE NCR! Mabuhay ang PSITE! Mabuhay ang IT Educators!
