The Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators Foundation, Inc. – National Capital Region Chapter (PSITE – NCR) held its 1st Information Technology Student Congress last January 30, 2013 at the University of the East-Manila. The UE theater housed more than 1000 participants from 24 schools in the region that graced the event on that day. Dr. Linda P. Santiago, Chancellor of the University of the East-Manila Campus boosted the morale of the participants by motivating them to continue their quest for excellence and acquire the necessary competencies needed for them to be socially responsible IT professionals in the future.
As the PSITE-NCR President, Ms. Carmela Malong Racelis emphasized in her message, PSITE is an organization composed of academic institutions, IT program heads, faculty members and corporate members aiming to promote quality Information Technology education in the country through monthly seminars and workshops, for tie-ups with industry-academe practitioners, and programs designed to benefit its members and the academic sector in general.
The organization of the 1st IT Students Congress kept the delegates abreast with the latest innovations and developments as they met IT experts and gurus and socialized with the other students from various academic institutions. The topics discussed are as follows: Mobile Programming, Telecoms Infrastructure and Network Solutions, IT Security, Job Hunting with Personality Development, Robotics, Cybercrime and Game development. The event has generous sponsors from the industry bringing in the latest trends in Information Technology, namely Optimal Systems Distribution Inc. , Acer, DMCI , SMART, Blue Horizon Maritime Training and Assessment Center, Inc., FilNippon,Weemall, Netplay and Eastern Telecoms.
